Your Epidermis Is Showing

When work gets rough, so does your skin. Our dermis is a very sensitive and absolutely necessary organ that protects our entrails and keeps our bodies together. Our skin is sensitive, and requires a great deal of attention, especially when subjected to the dirt and grime that linger in the air as a result of our heavily polluted atmosphere. There are many threats to the well-being of our skin, and our skin can get damaged by winds, or more particularly by the sun. When the sun strikes, our skin can get burnt—badly. Only recently have dermatologists discovered the dangers of long-term exposure to the sun, and aside from the detrimental short-term effects of discomfort, itching, burning, and peeling, perennial sunburn can cause a world of problems far more taxing than a bit of pain, redness, and flaking.

But many of us need not worry about having serious skin problems such as these, and are more concerned with the cosmetic appearance of our skin, and simply waking up and feeling confident and comfortable in our dermis.

The study conducted by international team led by Carol Prives of Columbia University, New York successfully treated breast cancer cells carrying a mutant p53 gene with statins when some of them died and others stopped growing in the disorganized manner. But there is a lot more to be done in this research before interpreting lab results into clinical success.

Church Groups get a year on the Birth Control Rule

Non-profit organizations, which are religiously affiliated including hospitals and universities, will have to offer their women employees a birth control coverage as ruled by the Obama administration on Friday. However, these organizations have been given a full year to comply. The Department of Health and Human Services issued a final rule, which makes it necessary for the religious groups to provide a broad range of services from morning after pills to implanted contraceptives. This decision is likely to draw a significant opposition from the religious conservatives, as many of them do not comply with this new rule as of now.

Sub Standard Implants sold to Dutch Firm

Augmenting a scandal that can affect 300,000 women across the globe, Diane Bouhuij, a Dutch health official, reported that a Dutch firm had bought implants made by France’s Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) which is now defunct and under investigation. Renamed as “M-implants”, they were sold by the Dutch firm in Netherlands to about 1,000 women. However, the name of the Dutch company was not revealed. PIP, once the third largest maker of breast implants in the world is found guilty of using industrial-grade in place of medical-grade silicon in some of its implants and this latest. Renaming outbreak has further enlarged the scope of the health controversy.
